Representatives of European wood associations at Malaysian Wood Expo (MWE)
The Managing Director of the Dutch Timber Trade Association, Paul van den Heuvel, and GD Holz Managing Director, Thomas Goebel, travelled to Kuala Lumpur at the invitation of the MTC to attend the MWE, which is very important for Malaysian exporters.
The three-day fair at the new exhibition Centre (MITEC – Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre) in Kuala Lumpur was characterized by a series of networking events. The fair itself featured 120 exhibitors, mainly from Malaysia, presenting timber and timber products for export. In addition, there was a series of specialist presentations on the topic of wood.
The mood among the exhibitors was mainly good, but the economic situation of Malaysian timber exports is not considered very positive at the moment because many sales markets, including Europe, are currently cautious. Malaysia is very concerned about the new EUDR regulation and the impact this will have on timber exports from Malaysia. A number of European member associations in the ETTF have maintained good contacts with the MTC for years. (gb)
