Multi-stakeholder platform of the EU Commission informs about interim status of the EUDR

With about 200 participants (in person and digitally), the last event of the multi-stakeholder platform on EUDR was well attended. The event primarily served to inform about the current status of the implementation, which has been in force since the end of June 2023.

The Commission plans to set up two focus groups to look at standards and traceability. ETTF has applied for both focus groups. The number of applications far exceeds the number of participants foreseen. In addition, the EC will carry out an impact assessment in 2024 to examine significant effects of the regulation. The next 18 months will also be used to hold intensive talks with important suppliers, some of whom, such as Indonesia and Brazil, are already participants in the multi-stakeholder platform.

The event left the impression that the Commission still has a lot of unanswered questions, as did the participants; this became clear in the course of the discussion. The first Q&A catalogue that the Commission has put online is described as insufficient and offers a number of generalities. ETTF, as a partner of the platform, has already forwarded essential concerns to the Commission, for example from the ETTF associations Spain, Belgium, and Germany.

Following the decision of the ETTF General Assembly, a working group will be formed in the coming weeks to discuss major concerns in the implementation and communicate them to the EC. (gb)
